What does giving back mean to you? To SCHS it means selfless acts of kindness and unconditional giving without expecting anything in return.
When an animal is subject to hatred, abuse, abandonment and neglect you wonder how they can be happy to see people. You realize that they have been on a journey that you may never understand. What you will understand is that you were meant to cross paths. In that journey, everyone included you will learn something along the way. Sometimes it will be a significant change in yourself and other things will be small. Animals want a chance to be loved and to make a difference in your life. For those animals that have never had the chance to feel love, they first learn how to trust. They go from being an animal to becoming a pet within a loving home.
Pets are so important in our lives. It amazes me how much they can endure. They are teachers by nature, teaching us trust, forgiveness, patience, kindness, and love. We don’t realize how much we gain with our selfless acts of kindness.
Kindness and generosity are contagious and our community leads by example. Our community has the compassion and strength that allows us to continue in our efforts. We are able to implement lifesaving programs that increase adoptions, decrease length of stay, decrease pet overpopulation and provide educational resources.
Non-profit work is hard, and not for everyone, but every chance we get and every life we save is a chance and a change for one life, because every life matters. We are the advocate for those who do not have a voice.
We treat a variety of conditions to include: diabetic, elderly, emaciated, orthopedic, infections, heartworm and various other conditions.
SCHS is a private, open admission shelter meaning no homeless animal in Sheboygan County is turned away. We take in abused, neglected, abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals. SCHS receives an average 2,500 pets annually. We are not supported by tax dollars and our support comes from the community.
When a community joins together we can do powerful things. Thank you for thinking of SCHS and together we are making our community a better place to live.
Support a shelter pet by becoming a monthly donor, by making a donation or adopting a pet in need . No matter your donation size, every donation makes a difference in the life of a pet.
